This was a little project we did for some radio show themed event - I cant remember. Here is a link to a recording of this trumpet, over-dubbed three times by yours truly.

They told me a plating job or a valve job would not be necessary for a long time. A little plating wear on one of the valves, but they said it was nothing to worry about. Compression on this horn is great, according to my shop.

I cant keep that pace very long, but it's fun to really zing one every now and then. From G above the staff to C above the staff, this horn is very hot with a lot of air. From D in the staff to G above the staff, is much easier than my student Yamaha. What I do notice is everything is really in tune up there. I cant play lead, at least not for more than 5 minutes. Come to think of it, perhaps that's why my band director friend told me it would be a great lead horn. That's why the 3rd valve slide push-rod is curved in. I hadn't noticed that until he pointed it out. The lead pipe goes straight through the valve section straight int to the bell section. He told me its very open and free blowing because of the "Straight-Through" design. Players often discount these later model Olds Trumpets, but even at the repair shop I took it to, the guy who worked on it it told me they were kind of a sleeper horn for Olds. It has a bright cutting lead sound, but it also gets warm and supple in the low range. He told me this would be a good lead horn or soloist horn. I had a friend, band director and great trumpeter play through this horn, he gave it the thumbs up. I hate to part with it, but alas, I am not enough of a player to really make it sing. This trumpet is a great horn with a lot of life left in it.

Please check out the very thorough pictures and ask questions if you're interested. I'm not a trumpet expert so I've put up a bunch of pictures. The horn plays better than ever! The plating is at around 99%. They replaced the felts and corks to realign the valves. While there are signs of wear, this trumpet was recently serviced by the bay area's top shop. This trumpet is in optimum playing condition. Olds Super Star 2, Ultra Sonic Bb trumpet, in silver plate. Olds Super Star 2 Ultra Sonic Trumpet Serial # 898517 NO RESERVE! This auction is for a vintage 1973-74 F.E.
